TIP ONE: WINTER DRIVING SERIES – GET YOUR VEHICLE READY FOR WINTER

Winter weather is hard on your vehicle and its engine. Prepare for winter in the fall, by setting a service appointment to get a complete check-up of your:

Battery
Your motor needs a fully charged battery to start in cold weather. Check the charging system and belts. Have your battery tested in the fall and spring. Replace weak batteries before they fail.No one wants to be stuck on the side of the road in a snowstorm because of a failed battery.

Ignition system
Replace defective ignition wires, cracked distributor caps and worn spark plugs, they can make starting difficult or may cause a sudden breakdown. Certainly no fun when it’s cold outside.

Lights
Make sure that all lights work and that headlights are properly aimed. Brake lights and headlights. Check them all.

Brakes
Check or service your brakes to ensure even braking. Pulling, or unusual squealing or grinding may mean they need repair.

Tires
Check pressures often, especially before any highway driving. Properly inflated, high quality winter tires will give you best traction on winter roads and increase fuel efficiency.

We’ll make sure your vehicle is ready for the winter, just give us a call at 888-921-4433 to set an appointment.

Climbing the Mountain – the 2012 Pikes Peak Challenge

Starting at an elevation of 9,390 feet and finishing at 14,110 feet – nearly three miles above sea level – the challenging Pikes Peak International Hill Climb features a unique road course that is 12.42 miles in length with 156 (!) corners. First run in 1916, the event is the second oldest motor racing event in America after the Indianapolis 500.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV Evolution is a purpose-built racing prototype designed specifically to conquer the undulating and difficult Pikes Peak race course. While key components including the electric motor(s), lithium-ion batteries and MCU are unchanged from those found in the 100% electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV production model, the i-MiEV Evolution features a radically sculpted carbon-fiber body, a tube-frame chassis, a unique tri-motor configuration and an advanced form of Mitsubishi All-Wheel Control (AWC) all-wheel drive.

Handling driving duties of this revolutionary all-electric racing prototype is Japanese rally racing legend Hiroshi Masuoka. In addition to winning such prestigious events as the Italian Baja and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Rally, Masuoka scored back-to-back victories in the world-famous Dakar Rally in 2002 and 2003.

Joining the i-MiEV Evolution in the competition is a Mitsubishi i-MiEV race car that is identical to the street-legal 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV production car in every way, save for aerodynamically-enhanced front and rear bumper sections, performance shock absorbers and springs and the addition of competition safety equipment including a roll cage and safety harness. Everything else (including the tires) remains completely untouched from the road-going version of the company’s affordably-priced and eco-friendly electric vehicle.

Professional SCORE International off-road race-winner Beccy Gordon will be behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV race car as it makes its way up the mountain in this year’s edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The talented American driver has also competed in the Baja 1000 and as a “guest” professional driver in the Long Beach Pro/Celebrity Race held during the annual Long Beach Grand Prix race weekend.

Whether or not you have mountains in your neighborhood, the i-MiEV is a great car, especially for those who live in an urban environment. Stop by and see if the i-MiEV fits in your lifestyle. We’ll be glad to test drive one with you!

The Mitsubishi Lancer – Great Car for Teen Drivers

The Mitsubishi Lancer has been a consistently great car for teens for the last several years. While teens like the sleek, sporty look, parents like the safety features.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2012 Lancer a Top Safety Pick because it received the highest rating of “Good” in front, side and rear tests, as well as roof strength tests.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has tested four versions of the Mitsubishi Lancer: sedan and hatchback models with two- and all-wheel drive. All four models get identical safety scores. They have an overall score of four stars, and also receive four stars in front and side crash tests and for rollover risk.

The 2012 Lancer’s standard safety features include a seven-airbag system with an airbag for the drivers’ knees, as well as anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist and traction control. Hill start assist is standard only on the Ralliart.

So, if you are in the market for a great car for a teen driver, stop by our Marlow Heights location and test drive a 2012 Lancer. You won’t be disappointed and neither will your teen!

Mitsubishi Motors Delivers First 2012 Mitsubishi i EV Fleet Vehicle Orders to Google and IGO CarSharing

Mitsubishi Motors has delivered the first fleet vehicle orders of the new environmentally-friendly and affordably-priced 100% electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i to search engine giant Google and car sharing service IGO CarSharing.

MMNA and Capitol Mitsubishi of San Jose, California, delivered the high-tech yet fun-to-drive 2012 Mitsubishi i electric vehicles to Google’s corporate headquarters on Wednesday, February 29, at the Google Solar Carport. The Mitsubishi i EVs add to GFleet, the company’s employee car-sharing fleet that consists entirely of plug-in vehicles.

Google has installed the largest corporate electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the U.S. at its headquarters in Mountain View, California. The company has a full 147 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations currently, with more units planned for installation to replenish electric vehicles on its campus, including Mitsubishi i’s advanced lithium-ion main battery packs.

On Wednesday, February 22, MMNA and Max Madsen Mitsubishi delivered the initial batch of 2012 Mitsubishi i EVs to IGO CarSharing for use in this organization’s growing fleet of environmentally-friendly vehicles.

IGO CarSharing is a membership-based non-profit car sharing company based in Chicago, Illinois, that was founded in 2002 by another non-profit organization, the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), to help foster “sustainable development and livable urban communities.”

This convenient and affordably-priced (four different rate plans are available; all pricing plans include gas and insurance) car sharing service allows drivers to select one of more than 250 low-emission vehicles that are available in 30-plus different Chicago-area neighborhoods 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

This delivery of 2012 Mitsubishi i EVs to the Chicago-area IGO CarSharing fleet is the latest development in the Japanese auto manufacturer’s commitment to the state of Illinois: In addition to being the home of Mitsubishi’s state-of-the-art automobile manufacturing plant in the city of Normal, Mitsubishi Motors and the State of Illinois announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last year that will see the two parties collaborate to help develop critical initiatives supporting electric vehicles like the all-new Mitsubishi i.

Last year, the City of Chicago entered into an agreement to install a total of 280 EV charging stations, 36 of which will be dedicated to IGO CarSharing vehicles, at the Windy City’s bustling airport, shopping malls and at rest stops along the Illinois Tollway – developments that should make the charging of 100% electric-powered vehicles like the 2012 Mitsubishi i a convenient experience for the residents of America’s 3rd most populous city.

Getting a Great Deal – Tips to Increase Your Credit Score

Bob Schmeich, Finance Director, Ourisman Chevrolet and Mitsubishi

When you come to Ourisman Chevrolet and Mitsubishi, you expect the best deal possible and we want to provide the best deal possible.  So, before you even get here, there are a few things you can do to help us help you.

First, it’s a good idea to know your credit score.  You can get a free annual report by visiting Annual Credit Report.

This is important because the 3-digit number that is generated by the information in your credit profile determines the interest rate on the money you borrow to buy a new car.

But don’t fear, we have a great selection of partners, including traditional banks and manufacturers, who we work with to get you the best possible deal on your vehicle.

And whether you realize it or not, you can also positively influence your score.  Here are some basic tips to having the best credit score possible:

  • Pay your bills on time – the best way to get a better credit score is to pay your bills before the due date and keep your balances low.
  • Take out credit only when you really need it.
  • Look at your resources, it’s better to have 2 cards at 40 percent of available credit than one card at 80 percent and one not used at all.
  • Don’t close the card with the longest history – the length of your credit history also can affect your credit score.  If you must close cards, make sure you keep those you have had longest and close out newer cards.

The bottom line is this, if you want the best possible deal on a car, you need to make sure you have the best possible credit score.  Before you come to Ourisman, know what your credit score looks like now and what is influencing your score today.

By Bob Schmiech, Finance Director, has been with Ourisman Chevrolet and Mitsubishi for more than 15 years focused on finance and sales.
